We use only GOTS certified organic cotton in all New Generals cotton products. Organic cotton is super soft, responsibly produced and lasts a long time
Organic cotton is cotton from plants that are not genetically modified and which are certified to be grown without the use of synthetic agricultural chemicals, such as fertilizers and pesticides, and produced according to the internationally recognized organic agricultural standards. Organic cotton production maintains the earth's health and ecosystems by using natural processes rather than toxic chemicals or GMOs (genetically modified organisms). The cultivation of organic cotton does not damage the soil, has less impact on the air and uses 88% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton.
The production of organic cotton promotes and improves biological diversity and biological cycle and is thus beneficial to human health and the environment. It is a systemic approach aimed at establishing a diverse and balanced agricultural ecosystem including all types of crops and agricultural activities. An essential element in the production of organic cotton is the careful selection of varieties that are adapted to local conditions in terms of climate, soil and robustness to pests and diseases.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the international standard for organically produced cotton. GOTS is the world's most widely used certification in organic textiles. The use of GOTS certified cotton not only ensures that the cotton is organically grown, the certification also sets requirements for a wide range of criteria such as proper social and practical working conditions and prohibits all forms of child labor. In addition, the entire value chain must live up to a wide range of requirements for sustainable and responsible production and handling. This applies, among other things. packaging, labeling, trade and shipment of the goods.
All New Generals cotton materials come from organic farms that rehabilitate the land, respect animal welfare and improve the lives of farmers.
Organic cotton farming builds fertile soil and biodiversity by rotating crops, minimizing tillage and planting cover crops. Organic soils collect carbon which is a key component in soil construction and therefore improves soil fertility.
